The Road to Kory's..       2009!
Welcome to the 13th annual NCAA Tournament for the Jelly Beans! Can you believe that this is the 13th year? Actually this is the 14th, as a few of you will remember the glorious Glenbrook years where 10 of us decided to try a pool for the first time. Wow, has time changed! I hope you Enjoy! As always.. Good luck! And may the best man/woman win!            -Kdog

BTW, the basement is now decked out with a new bar and a pure digital feed. All to compliment the AWESOME 50 inch PANASONIC PLASMA with 5.1 sound!

Proudly sponsored by: Kory's Basement Bar and Grill. "THEE place" for all your March Madness!!!

Site News: Thursday, April 9th, 2009

  And the winners ARE:
    4/9/09
I'll right now, here we go. The annual summary of champions and chumps. I want to personally thank all of you for participating in this years festivities. I was super stessed and busy on the personal side but Basketball, this site, and your participation gave me something to really look forward to. NEXT YEAR I should be back on schedule, the Basement should be open again.. and I'll have time to treat the Invitational with the proper resect it deserves. That being said, I've scorred and accounted for everything EXCEPT the invitational. There will be one final post regarding it. BTW, Next year I also promise to have a working Smackboard again. SPIKE should be thankful it wasn't working this year or else he might have had to answer to why his kids and wife continue to dominate "the Pool Dominator".
Lastly, next year we will return to a 50 square grid, however I plan to have it pre-numbered and will take requests starting as soon as the tourney starts. I also will formalize a "pod" system for the 64 lotto.. it seemed to work out well this year.

So without any further Adu, I present to you the following summary.

2009 U Pick Winner: DanR(woof) "Woof" allright, this out of town newbie by way of BrianH had us all saying "woof" by the final four (more about Brian in a second) 268 beans. Runner up: MattK. -Here is another "newbie", this one however is an old friend. We welcome him into the tourney this year, hopefully this just wet his wistle and he'll "donate" next year with the proceeds. 67 beans for his efforts.
2009 CHUMP of the Year award: BrianH. Worst picks ever, AGAIN! No wonder he signed up a "ringer" (DanR) -BrianH truly needs the help! Seriously, here is one for the record books. "Most CHUMPS wins ever!" Enjoy! 5 beans goes his way along with a year's worth of harassment!
64 Lotto Winner: Eshawn. The only number 1 seed not to be upset, Eshawn rhode his Tar Heels like his favorite pair of high heels -all the way to the big dance! The big E and his terricloth drawers gets 100 beans for his efforts. Runner up: Kevin. This was Kevins year for sure, look for his name in a few other spots as well. 50 beans goes his way. 21 beans goes to 3rd and 4th: Jamie and Jones.
2009 16 U Pick Winner: Steve. Steve took this "winner take all" and nets 70 beans for his effort. Historians will note: Steve won the original one back in 2001.
2009 16 Lotto Winner: Marcha100 beans go her way. Consider it a wedding gift! :-)
16 lotto also-rans: 2nd place (and
30 beans) goes to Kevin while 15 beans goes to the soon to be wed couple of ShawnR and Marcha
(again). Looking at the history, Marcha has won this spot % 50 of time.
NIT Tourney Champ: With a healthy Tuesday evening turnout, this annual guessing game has stood the test of time. Jamie Wins 14 beans in a nail biter, sorry Ryan, but se totally deserves it. Her 2nd sheet was the only one with the winner on it however it was the "sheet of integrity that had the rest of the field beat.
2009 Auction big winner: Connie. -We may never know is this was subsidized but regardless, this rookie won fair and square the only way there is. -Outbid everyone for a stud team! The 88.00 beans sheplayed netted her a big 143.50 beanout. see the other results here
Lastly the SUPERGRID. ShawnR was the big winner (again) with his ownership of the 8-9,2-3 box. Note: this year we switched to a 25 square grid. NEXT year we will return to a 50 square grid and I will start taking request from the start on on a pre-numbered grid. the final game netting him 65 beans. See the "Bean-out" grid below for other big winners.
2009 Deep Pockets Award: ShawnR*. -Barely. This is the 5th year in a row that ShawnR has proven, it takes beans to win beans. Note to other commisioners, try to have your auction on Shawns day off Every year. Invite this fella...;-) * that being said, it was very close. Are wedding bells slowing him down? Next year when it switched to Tuesday, we will see. Plan for it now! Tuesday 6-8 beedubs, then the auction back at the Tiki... see you then!

  And the winners are?
    4/8/09
I'll be working tonight and tomorrow if needed, to crunch all the numbers and post the final BEANOUT summary. Thanks to all for another fine year. Next year the Final Four is in INDY and I (hopefully) won't be going through the process of getting a new job so the SITE SHOULD BE ROCKIN! Stay tuned for the summary.... kdog out for now.

That's right, sports fans.. there is no better way to get over all this doom and gloom then to put your hard earned money towards an intellectual challenge that is unprecidented in all of sportsdom. This will be a PAPER BRACKET, graded with HIGHLIGHTERS and posted in the basement for all to see for the duration of Tourney. Soo.. check back Sunday for the official on line bracket.. (check back sooner than that to leave some smack on the smack board -when I get that fixed) and let the games begin!! -KDOG

    Tourney Rules

  U Pick 'em
     3/12/08
Simple enough.. get points for correctly picking the 64 team tournament. Rounds are weighted 1,2,3,4,5 and 7. Tie breaker is correct picks first round, then second round then final score total. 5 beans per bracket.

  Lotto
     3/12/08
Same as last year, 3 to get in.. the winner gets a ton!
A one time drawing will occur before the first game of the tournament. Each pick will cost only 3 jelly beans. The winner AGAINST THE POINT SPREAD of each game advances.

Here's an example. Let's say tonight's game has the number 1 seed playing the 16th seed. The Star & News (which will be the official spread for this pool) has the number 1 seed winning by 12 points. If the number 1 seed wins by a 12 point margin or better.. The person who picked that team advances. The person who picked the 16th seed loses. If, however, the 16th seed team beats THE SPREAD by making the final score margin less than 12 points, the owner of the 16th seed now takes ownership of the 1 seed ticket. If the 16th seed team were to beat the number one seed in this example then the owner would of course keep that ticket. Don't let all this confuse you. Our crack staff will make sure that it all goes down the way it should. You don't really have to do anything but root for your teams. Every pick has the same probability for winning. Winner takes 100 Jelly beans, 2nd place gets 50 and 3rd and fourth get 16 each. Any teams not picked will be donated to the house.

  Auction
     3/12/08
This instant classic needs no explanation. The final 16 teams are auctioned to the highest bidder. For each victory your team gets you get a percentage of the pot. 1st win 5%. 2nd win 5 %. Third win 10 %. The winner wins the remainder.

  16 Lotto
     3/12/08
There will be a blind draw for the 16 teams. There is NO Spread with this, what you pull is what you get. 10 beans a pull. The beans pay out are: 4th and 3rd get 15. 2nd gets 30 and 1st gets 100. I would like to see 16 different people in this on.. Come on folks.. wudda ya say?

  16 U Pick 'em
     3/12/08
Simple enough.. get points for correctly picking the 16 team tournament. Rounds are weighted 1,2,3,4. Tie breaker is final score total then correct picks first round, then second round. 5 beans per bracket.

  SUPERGRID
     3/12/08
Modified in 2007! This exciting option (courtesy of the Beedub's Brain trust circa 2004) allows ALL participants an option to win for EVERY game in Tournament! (2007 edit: Now starts in the sweet 16) As the tourney progresses so does the payout, so that the final game is worth a whooping 40% (That equates to 100 beans for a 5 bean investment) The kicker is that you are illegible to win for each and every game!
HOW IT WORKS:
There are 50 "slots" on an x-y grid labeled 0-9 on the x axis, double numbered on the Y. The axis represents the higher score vs. the lower score. When the score is final, the owner of the grid-box with last digit for each teams score, wins that rounds payout.

Payout Schedule:Modified in 2007! -First round has 8 winners, ANY win that round nets you 5. Next Round 10. 35 for the championship round and 100 for the Champ!

Why? This way there is a big payout at the end and significant payouts for the final four, and the champions. Remember EVERY square is "Live" for every game from the sweet 16 on. -Coolbeans indeed!

  KORY INVITATIONAL
     3/11/09
a.k.a The Golden Ticket One and only one bracket per each qualifing franchise. Scoring is the same and the normal bracket. Braging rights are doubled. Winner take all. more rules to come.. kdog.
