The Road to Kory's..

Actually this is the 7th, as a few of you will remember the glorious Glenbrook years where 10 of us decided to try a pool for the first time. Wow, has time changed! Speaking of change..You'll also notice some changes with the stats, especially for the U-Pick section. I hope you Enjoy! As always.. Good luck! And may the best man/woman win!            -Kdog

   Tourney News: Wednesday· April 4th · 2002

Maryland Wins. Federman Wins. Hell Freezes.
     4/4/02 9:30pm
Ok. Pool is over. You can go home now. There is nothing more to see... please go home. Normally I would write some loving remarks or some comments on the last game but I just can't get up the gumption to do it this time around. I do want to thank every one of you for making this year another success. My annual trip to Vegas alwas brings this site to a crawl, and for that I apologize. -anyway.. I had fun, I hope you all did as well. It was so awesome to have the Hoosiers in the thick of things.. I still can't put all my feelings down in words. SOOOooo Thanks for a great year, feal free to contact me regarding future changes to this site, changes to the rules additions, subtractions etc.. I get a real kick out of doing this kind of stuff for YOU.. so again.. Thank you and good night!

Kory

  And the Winners are:
     4/4/02 9:30pm
Enough with the chit chat.... Here it is.. the final take.
2002 U Pick Winner: Federman. Where the hell did this come from?!? Give the man ALL KINDS of credit.. he picked the final AND the winner. Everybody thought he was crazy, too. Feds response? "Crazy like a fox!" Congrats my friend. -good luck collecting!!! 210 Jelly beans to Federman for his effort.
2002 Upick Runner-Up: Stewart Stewart beat out poor
LEE in a tie breaker to win the coveted 2nd place award. -Got blindsided by Federman or else the whole En-ch-lada would have been his. Better luck next time, Stewart.. tell your ma "hi". Stew gets 50 beans for his effort.
2002 U Pick PUNK award: Mike Hayes. OK.. my roomie set a new high er.. low with this one.. are you sure you weren't trying for this?!!? He obviously doesn't know what he's doing so I'll refund his entree beans.
2002 64 Lotto Winner: Sandrick! I think he just might have paid off his entry fees with this victory. Congrats. 100 beans are coming your way!
2002 64 Lotto Runner-up: Federman. (50 beans) -I think this damn fool won the most this year! One year of prosperity for every 7 on contributions is fine with me! so he also gets the
RONNY AWARD (Most jelly beans won) 2002 64 lotto 3rd and 4th go to McNAY and JAMIE. 21 beans. -Bout Time Jamie got some beans back!
2002 16 U Pick Winner: SANDRICK. What? Damn, I guess if a chimp could write novel given enough time and a typewriter, than Dave could win to big Bean awards. 90 beans to our southern brother.
2002 16 U Pick Runner-up: STEWART. 20 beans. runner up in both contests.. JUST not good enough, eh?!?!
NIT TOURNEY CHAMPION! McNAY. -When your so 'inside the numbers' it's scary. This guy was so on it, it was won in the 2nd round. Hell, it's caused the committee (me) to revamp the rules for next year. Serious congrats to this man.. he deserved his 40 beans.
16 LOTTO Winner: MIKE HAYES. Lucky draw iced the 100 bean prize.
16 Lotto Runner-up: KORY. 30 beans to the Red Headed Pool Bully.
16 Lotto also rans: Trish. and "Ms. Vegas" Rana both get 15.
AUCTION... big winner... McNAY.. with a 180 bean total take.Once again, McNay has PROVEN that it takes money to make money. Look out Barry, he's going for the "threepeat " tie. Anyway..

McNAY
also wins the dubious DEEP POCKETS award for another straight year.Check the Grid for other winners.

  The Final Four is set!
     3/25/02 7:30 pm
The final four is set and INDIANA is one of them. HOW CRAZY IS THAT?!?!?!?!

First. EVERYTHING is updated!

Second. The spread for Maryland was 8.5. Their 90-82 victory resulted in the only steel of the weekend. Sorry JAMIE, Congratulations DAVE! But don't get TOO excited. I wrongly calculated that
DAVE beat McNAY.. so I fixed it. Sorry DAVE.. I guess you can hit up your brother for the entree fee now!!

Third, this is when you can start to figure out whether or not you'll be making any "beans" this year. I'd spell it all out for you but it's just as easy to see for yourself. Browse the Scenarios and the Leaders link and see if you have a chance!

P.s. Click here to view a cool tribute to IU's victory over DUKE. -Thanks Fed, for the link!

  State of the "Union" address
     3/23/02 11:30 am
Much has happened since last we spoke.. er.. updated. FIRST AND FOREMOST. IU WINS! IU WINS! IU WINS! Unbelievable.. My good friend Steve had a funny thought to ponder the net day. Isn't weird to see all the GOOD press and PR surrounding INDIANA. For once, almost everyone was routing FOR us. Anyway, I digress.
POOL NEWS. First, all the U-Pick stuff is up to date. It's around this time in the tourney that you can start to predict the "what if" scenarios. I've gone ahead and done that for you with the "Tournament Scenarios" link. Check it out and see if you have a shot at winning it all.

The LOTTO is up to date as well, and is gearing up for "The Money Round". All victory's from now on will win you some much loved Jelly beans.
FEDERMAN and STEVE will be fighting out along with Kory and Jamie for today's games. Tomorrow we will see JAMIE again matched up against the pool shark DAVE. DAVE looks to revenge a stolen Jelly bean guarantee by beating the socks off of BIFF.-Good luck to all! p.s. the spreads will be posted later today.

The 16 LOTTO is up to date. Once again it prove the perfect kickoff for the lunacy known as "The Auction"

The Auction. What can I say. Read it for your self and see what I'm talking about. Does it take deep pockets to win it all? Time will tell. 1 of McNay's big bean team has already fallen. Congrats to our proxy bidding Shawn R. His IU pick was the deal of the tourney so far. If only we knew that he would have gone twice as high -the auction would have set another record!!!

SPECIAL NOTE: There are two more entrees into the 16 U-Pick 'em. I left them at work and have yet to enter them. SORRY VPO DESK!!!! Also..... SECONDLY, McNAY HAS WON THE NIT U'PICKEM. What??! The NIT isn't over yet? It just doesn't matter. The Damn fool had in one after the first round. CONGRATULATIONS!

That's it for know, Good Luck to all of you today and tomorrow. Your Commish Out.

  2nd Annual NIT Challenge
     3/11/02 5:00pm
Yep, If you're REALLY inside the numbers, this one is for you. Last year we had a meager turn out (and I expect the same this year, but it's worth mentioning) Here's the deal. This is a winner take all thing. I'd like to increase the bean count to "3 picks for 5". However, I'm willing to work with you all on this on. Print out the bracket and get me your picks, this on starts Tuesday night. For those of you who know where to find me on Tuesdays.. that's the best bet. I'll have forms and such there.
NIT Printable Bracket (P.S. I'm itching to repeat, so WATCH OUT!!)

  2002: the Sixth season begins.
     3/5/02 8:00pm
Not much to write about YET... but ALL HELL will break loose this weekend. I'm working on getting the smack board working for 2002 and getting the behind the sceans things all lined up. I hope to have this baby fully functional by the weekend. That's it for now, Kdog out!

  Tournament History
     3/5/02
Quick.. Who won the 1976 NCAA Tournament? Ok.. that one is easy. -How about 1981? 1974? Here's a convenient list of all past winners. Tournament History

    Tourney Rules

  U Pick 'em
     3/5/02
Simple enough.. get points for correctly picking the 64 team tournament. Rounds are weighted 1,2,3,4,5 and 7. Tie breaker is final score total then correct pickets first round, then second round. 5 beans per bracket.

  Lotto
     3/5/02
Same as last year except for the beans. 3 to get in.. the winner gets a ton!
A one time drawing will occur before the first game of the tournament. Each pick will cost only 3 jelly beans. The winner AGAINST THE POINT SPREAD of each game advances.

Here's an example. Let's say tonight's game has the number 1 seed playing the 16th seed. The Star & News (which will be the official spread for this pool) has the number 1 seed winning by 12 points. If the number 1 seed wins by a 12 point margin or better.. The person who picked that team advances. The person who picked the 16th seed loses. If, however, the 16th seed team beats THE SPREAD by making the final score margin less than 12 points, the owner of the 16th seed now takes ownership of the 1 seed ticket. If the 16th seed team were to beat the number one seed in this example then the owner would of course keep that ticket. Don't let all this confuse you. Our crack staff will make sure that it all goes down the way it should. You don't really have to do anything but root for your teams. Every pick has the same probability for winning. Winner takes 110 Jelly beans, 2nd place gets 50 and 3rd and fourth get 16 each. Any teams not picked will be donated to the house.

  Auction
     3/5/02
This instant classic needs no explanation. The final 16 teams are auctioned to the highest bidder. For each victory your team gets you get a percentage of the pot. 1st win 5%. 2nd win 5 %. Third win 10 %. The winner wins the remainder plus a 15 bean subsidy courtesy of the U Pick'em pool. This events pot averages over 200 beans.

  16 Lotto
     3/5/02
There will be a blind draw for the 16 teams. there is NO Spread with this, what you pull is what you get. 10 beans a pull. The beans pay out are: 4th and 3rd get 15. 2nd gets 30 and 1st gets 100. I would like to see 16 different people in this on.. come on folks.. wudda ya say?

  16 U Pick 'em
     3/5/02
Simple enough.. get points for correctly picking the 16 team tournament. Rounds are weighted 1,2,3,4. Tie breaker is final score total then correct picks first round, then second round. 5 beans per bracket.
