The Road to Kory's..
Welcome to the 5th annual NCAA Tournament for the Jelly Beans! Can you believe that this is the 5th year? Actually this is the 6th, as a few of you will remember the glorious Glenbrook years where 10 of us decided to try a pool for the first time. Wow, has time changed! Speaking of change.. Every year we try something a little different and this year is no exception. First you will notice the new address and interface. -Hopefully you like it. I'll be working on it for a while so stay tuned and check back often. You'll also notice some changes with the stats, especially for the U-Pick section. As always.. Good luck! And may the best man/woman win!            -Kdog

   Tourney News: Tuesday· April 3rd · 2001

  Duke Wins.
     4/3/01 11:30am
Bad news, friends and family... Duke University has won this years' NCAA Tournament. I guess it's good news for a few of you but personally am in a state of morning. Besides the obvious reasons.. 3 titles for Coach K, more recruiting, etc.. I also will have to put up with a year of intolerable Duke propaganda from my coworker as well as a bevy of ESPN rhetoric and rehashings. Plus a Zillion more fair weather fans will now be off to Target (Yes Target will carry it) to pick up on some Blue and White outfits. Ba Humbug.
I'd like to thank all of you for making this the most successful Season to date. Many will remember this year for the rest of their lives. Outside of this pool we'll remember the DISMISSAL of RMK, the new Hoosiers, Texas Tech, The fall of the Pacers.. but I digress. This year was the year the AUCTION took the U- pick and a well received market adjustment to many of our other pools. Next years will be just as cool if not cooler so stay tuned!! Well until next year.. This is your Commish signing off............Go Hoosiers!!

  And the Winners are:
     4/3/01 11:30am
Enough banter.. Here it is.. the final take.
2001 U Pick Winner: Spike. He called it from the start. I guess the third time IS the charm. Let's give this New Englander some credit. He's stuck in UCONN and UMASS teritory yet still fly's his IU pride at all those who oppose him. Why he picked Duke will be a topic of discussion at our next family reunion. 220 Jelly beans to Spike for his effort.
2001 Upick Runner-Up: Matt S. a CP Morgan Outsider.. Let's not let this happen again. ;-) 50 beans.
2001 U Pick PUNK award: Dave Sandrick He obviously doesn't know what he's doing so I'll refund his entree beans.
2001 64 Lotto Winner: Eshawn. Stiffy's all around!
2001 64 Lotto Runner-Up: Tmac. -the new punk of the week. and owner of the 2001 DEEP POCKETS AWARD. also the RONNY AWARD (Most jelly beans won) 50 beans.
2001 64 lotto 3rd and 4th go to BIFF and FEDS. 21 beans. -Bout Time Biff got some beans back!
16 U Pick Winner: STEVE. Yea, whatever. 70 beans.
16 U Pick Runner-Up: Feds. 10 beans. -Don't eat them all in one place.
NIT TOURNEY CHAMPION! Kory. -When your so 'inside the numbers' it's scary.
16 LOTTO Winner: TMAC. Lucky draw for iced the 100 bean prize.
16 Lotto Runner-up: Steve. 30 beans to the Red Headed Pool Bully.
16 Lott also rans: Mike H. and "MR. Vegas" Stew both get 15.
AUCTION... big winner... Tmac.. with a 207 bean total take. Check the Grid for other winners.

  Duke Favored
     4/2/01 8:30am
Duke is favored by 4 for tonights game. Tmac is fixing to win big if they can pull it off but win by only 3. The big lotto has Tmac vs Eshawn.. the 16 Lotto pits Steve vs. Tmac. The 16 upick looks like Kory/Main or Steve. Good luck to all.. and 'Mucho thanks' for making this a memorable tourney!

  Kory wins the NIT Pool!
     4/2/01 8:30am
This was the REAL pool.. all other pools are a joke!

  AZ is in..Plus Duke
     3/31/01 10:30pm
Tmac secures a final in the 64 lotto while Steve take the pride spot in the 16 lotto. Rodandello ups his beer fund with the AZ win and that, my friend, is the latest. Check the U-Pick stats to the left.. they have been updated. fans of Durham must be upset.. his Trojans SUCKED IT and are out. More later - Kdog
Duke freakin' wins so you'all can suck it. Now I'm rooting for my bro. Blood is thicker than 'most hated teams'. kdog out.

Quick.. Who won the 1976 NCAA Tournament? Ok.. that one is easy. -How about 1981? 1974? Here's a convenient list of all past winners. Tournament History

    Tourney Rules

  U Pick 'em
     3/16/01
Simple enough.. get points for correctly picking the 64 team tournament. Rounds are weighted 1,2,3,4,5 and 7. Tie breaker is final score total then correct pickets first round, then second round. 5 beans per bracket.

  Lotto
     3/12/01
Same as last year except for the beans. 3 to get in.. the winner gets a ton!
A one time drawing will occur before the first game of the tournament. Each pick will cost only 3 jelly beans. The winner AGAINST THE POINT SPREAD of each game advances.

Here's an example. Let's say tonight's game has the number 1 seed playing the 16th seed. The Star & News (which will be the official spread for this pool) has the number 1 seed winning by 12 points. If the number 1 seed wins by a 12 point margin or better.. The person who picked that team advances. The person who picked the 16th seed loses. If, however, the 16th seed team beats THE SPREAD by making the final score margin less than 12 points, the owner of the 16th seed now takes ownership of the 1 seed ticket. If the 16th seed team were to beat the number one seed in this example then the owner would of course keep that ticket. Don't let all this confuse you. Our crack staff will make sure that it all goes down the way it should. You don't really have to do anything but root for your teams. Every pick has the same probability for winning. Winner takes 110 Jelly beans, 2nd place gets 50 and 3rd and fourth get 16 each. Any teams not picked will be donated to the house.

  Auction
     3/16/01
This instant classic needs no explanation. The final 16 teams are auctioned to the highest bidder. For each victory your team gets you get a percentage of the pot. 1st win 5%. 2nd win 5 %. Third win 10 %. The winner wins the remainder plus a 15 bean subsidy courtesy of the U Pick'em pool. This events pot averages 200 beans.

  16 Lotto
     3/16/01
There will be a blind draw for the 16 teams. there is NO Spread with this, what you pull is what you get. 10 beans a pull. The beans pay out are: 4th and 3rd get 15. 2nd gets 30 and 1st gets 100. I would like to see 16 different people in this on.. come on folks.. wudda ya say?

  16 U Pick 'em
     3/16/01
Simple enough.. get points for correctly picking the 16 team tournament. Rounds are weighted 1,2,3,4. Tie breaker is final score total then correct pickets first round, then second round. 5 beans per bracket.
