The Road to Kory's..       2007!
Welcome to the 11th annual NCAA Tournament for the Jelly Beans! Can you believe that this is the 11th year? Actually this is the 12th, as a few of you will remember the glorious Glenbrook years where 10 of us decided to try a pool for the first time. Wow, has time changed! I hope you Enjoy! As always.. Good luck! And may the best man/woman win!            -Kdog

Proudly sponsored by: Kory's Basement Bar and Grill. "THEE place" for all your March Madness!!!

(the secret to Kory's success last year. "Ok Rose, now who do you see coming out of the West?")

Site News: Monday, April 9th 2007

  Wrap-up.
    4/9/07 10:00 pm
-Ok. First and foremost I want to apologize for the lateness of this update. All the data was there and done, just no annual summary of the winners until now. I blame Sandrick but having 2 kids might have had something to do with it as well. Next I want to recognize a few records. First, a record turn out in the u-pick. I want to thank each and every one of you for making that happen. The 2nd record related to the total score for the winner. As Pool Bully so elquently aluded to, the previous record was 90, which would have gotten your 11th this year. -Crazy!
Next I want to quickly summarize some other news. This year we said good bye to the beta program "Stud" -There just wasn't enough interest to keep this afloat. We also saw the death of the "First Wed" lotto pick and Supergrid Party. By Moving the Grid to the Sweet sixteen round, having the internet, and the overall aging of the members of this group, the "first Wed" just didn't seem needed anymore. Hopefully it will drive traffic to the "sweet sixteen Wed" which should remain a staple of fun for years to come.
Enough of this rambling you want to know the offical stats right? well here they are.

Thank you all for another great year, it is because of YOU that this site exists!

2007 U Pick Winner: SteveHicks . A rookie!?!?! Yep, Congrats Steve on having the highest points scored ever plus having the highest Return on Investment (5660%). Steve 5 beans netted him 288 and was 80% of the total take (365). Runner up: SteveH . -The real SteveH. 72 beans for his efforts.
2007 CHUMP of the Year award:
AnnaS. Worst picks ever... Ever. She'll get her beans back for that... and a year's worth of harassment! -Hey Rodandello, 'got any more friends you want to have enter??
64 Lotto Winner: Michelle. Luckiest rookie ever. Michelle ante'd up and got great dividends on this, her first, tourney trip. Several key steals plus 3 match ups with JohnS made this a run to remember..100 beans for her efforts. Runner up: Dave. This is Dave event, -I don't know how but he's in the beans again. 50 beans for this lucky b-terd. 21 beans goes to 3rd and 4th: JohnS and Jamie.
2007 16 U Pick Winner: ShawnR. Well every dog has his day, right?
85 beans goes my way. Runner up: JohnS & RyanV split to 20 bean reward, congrats!
2007 16 Lotto Winner: RyanV!
100 beans go his way.
16 lotto also-rans:2nd place (and
30 beans) goes to Michelle while 15 beans goes to Kdog and JasonF
NIT Tourney Champ: With a healthy Tuesday evening turnout, this annual guessing game has stood the test of time.
Jones Wins 13 beans with a come from behind bracket busting W. Virgina pick. Nice work

2007 Auction big winner: ShawnR!. -the Return of the Big Spender! for 56 beans Shawny played the favorites to a big
163 beanout. see the other results here
Lastly the SUPERGRID. Olan has the big winner with his ownership of the 4 5-6 box. He got 2total games land in this spot with the final game netting him 100 beans, and a first round game with 5. See the "Bean-out" grid below for other big winners.
2007 Deep Pockets Award: ShawnR. -this is the 3rd year in a row that ShawnR has proven, it takes beans to win beans. Note to other commisioners, try to have your auction on Shawns day off Every year. Invite this fella...;-)

While this is not 100%, I also have calculated an ROI (return on investment) for the top winners.

SteveHicks tops the chart with 5660%. RyanV was in 2nd with 214% While Dave rounded out the top 3 with 194%. For those keeping track ShawnR actually came out in the black this year, with a 140% return on his investment.

Last update prior to Wed/Thur Summary
    4/2/07 9:00 pm
This is is. The Big night. Will we have a first time Repeat? Will a rookie take most of the beans? We'll know by the end of tonight. Of course, the site won't update untill around wed/thur as I double check and finish up all the posts. So until then, good luck! BTW: Michelle and Dave... Florida is favored by 4.5 (and on a side, if Dave wins this again he is the undisputed Loto king!!!)

Home Stretch
    3/31/07 4:00 pm
Ok Guys and girls, this is it, the home stretch. If you've checked out the scenarios you know that there are really only a few left competing for the big titles. Once agian it was a record year, both in participants, and correct pick percentages. From the outside looking in, it appears those chickens who picked a "striaght ticket" finally have a year where that is indeed what happened. Anyway, below are the spreads for tonights game. ALL PLAYERS are still active in the SUPERGRID, once again proving it's a the real deal when it comes to March Madness. Tonights SUPERGRID sqaures payout 35 java beans each. After monday, I'll start on the master payout spreadsheet and will be auditing the boards reconciling the beans. Until Monday night, Enjoy!!

Michelle and her Florida Flunkie's are favored by 3 over JohnS and his UCLA sqaud.

Jamie and her Georgetown thugs are favored over Dave and THEE Ohio State by 1

If your picks looked anything like mine, you'l be lucky to hear about the "2nd Chance pool" also known as the 16 U Pick-em. The Entry form is now available. Also the Infamous Sweet 16 Auction with he held this Wed Evening, plus the 16 u-pick and SUPERGRID. Until later, Kdog Out!

  Day Three Done.
    3/18/07 9:30 am
That's right, it's all done and calculated. The Hoosiers put up one heck of a fight, THEE Ohio State almost wasn't and those fighting Turtles of Maryland pulled back into their shells as the local favs BUTLER took it to 'em in the strech. Is THAT WHAT YOU THOUGHT WOULD HAPPEN? Look at the stats and see who actually called it. (and no, it wasn't me)

    Tourney Rules

  U Pick 'em
     3/4/07
Simple enough.. get points for correctly picking the 64 team tournament. Rounds are weighted 1,2,3,4,5 and 7. Tie breaker is correct picks first round, then second round then final score total. 5 beans per bracket.

  Lotto
     3/4/07
Same as last year, 3 to get in.. the winner gets a ton!
A one time drawing will occur before the first game of the tournament. Each pick will cost only 3 jelly beans. The winner AGAINST THE POINT SPREAD of each game advances.

Here's an example. Let's say tonight's game has the number 1 seed playing the 16th seed. The Star & News (which will be the official spread for this pool) has the number 1 seed winning by 12 points. If the number 1 seed wins by a 12 point margin or better.. The person who picked that team advances. The person who picked the 16th seed loses. If, however, the 16th seed team beats THE SPREAD by making the final score margin less than 12 points, the owner of the 16th seed now takes ownership of the 1 seed ticket. If the 16th seed team were to beat the number one seed in this example then the owner would of course keep that ticket. Don't let all this confuse you. Our crack staff will make sure that it all goes down the way it should. You don't really have to do anything but root for your teams. Every pick has the same probability for winning. Winner takes 110 Jelly beans, 2nd place gets 50 and 3rd and fourth get 16 each. Any teams not picked will be donated to the house.

  Auction
     3/425/07
This instant classic needs no explanation. The final 16 teams are auctioned to the highest bidder. For each victory your team gets you get a percentage of the pot. 1st win 5%. 2nd win 5 %. Third win 10 %. The winner wins the remainder.

  16 Lotto
     3/4/07
There will be a blind draw for the 16 teams. There is NO Spread with this, what you pull is what you get. 10 beans a pull. The beans pay out are: 4th and 3rd get 15. 2nd gets 30 and 1st gets 100. I would like to see 16 different people in this on.. Come on folks.. wudda ya say?

  16 U Pick 'em
     3/4/07
Simple enough.. get points for correctly picking the 16 team tournament. Rounds are weighted 1,2,3,4. Tie breaker is final score total then correct picks first round, then second round. 5 beans per bracket.

  SUPERGRID
     3/4/07
Modified for 2007! This exciting option (courtesy of the Beedub's Brain trust circa 2004) allows ALL participants an option to win for EVERY game in Tournament! (2007 edit: Now starts in the sweet 16) As the tourney progresses so does the payout, so that the final game is worth a whooping 40% (That equates to 100 beans for a 5 bean investment) The kicker is that you are illegible to win for each and every game!
HOW IT WORKS:
There are 50 "slots" on an x-y grid labeled 0-9 on the x axis, double numbered on the Y. The axis represents the higher seed vs. the lower seed. CHANGED in 05.. Higerscore vs. Lower score. When the score is final, the owner of the grid-box with last digit for each teams score, wins that rounds payout.

Payout Schedule:Modified for 2007! Final Version will be posted in March! -First round has 8 winners, ANY win that round nets you 5. Next Round 10. 35 for the championship round and 100 for the Champ!

Why? This way there is a big payout at the end and significant payouts for the final four, and the champions. Remember EVERY square is "Live" for every game from the sweet 16 on. -Coolbeans indeed!

  STUD
     3/4/07

Basically you fill out a Bracket per round with "stud" poker style betting. 2 beans get's you in, (your anti, if you will) 2 to stay per round. You can fold at any time, the trick is, no one will know what you have. You get "redealt" a fresh list of picks after every major round. (the commish can't play this, one)
